Our friends at Umbagong Landcare Group have been working hard to remove the invasive weed St John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) from various areas in Umbagong District Park, Latham. They’ve been documenting their efforts and are keen to share resources that may help in your own landcare patch. St John’s Wort is notoriously difficult to control, so every bit of knowledge and effort counts!
- Case study: Eradicating St John’s Wort from a native grassland at Umbagong District Park (pdf)
- Example of a site-specific plant inventory (pdf) – A great resource to help Umbagong landcarers identify invasive and native flora at their site, with a guide for particularly tricky grass species to differentiate. Feel free to use as inspiration to develop one for your own site.
- Know Your Weed: Weed info sheet template and example (St John’s Wort) (pdf) – A thorough info sheet template to really help you get to know your weeds. St John’s Wort used as an example.
- Weeding method: A summary of the Bradley Method applied to grassland (pdf) – If you haven’t heard of the Bradley Method, it’s worth learning about. Another tool to add to your habitat restoration belt!
A big thank you to Caroline Wenger from Umbagong Landcare Group for developing and sharing these wonderful resources.
